Steel SIPS Panels

The acronym "SIPS" or structural insulated panel system, is becoming more well-known as younger homeowners are prioritizing green building.

These specially-designed panels are constructed of weather-tested, fire-retardant, 20-gauge galvalume steel that contain no wood components. As a result, these panels are resistant to mold, mildew and termites and other wood-destroying organisms – essentially vital for Florida’s tropical climate but great for areas that have extreme weather conditions. A steel SIPS home is capable of withstanding Category 5 hurricane force winds while delivering energy-efficient, sustainable living in a non-toxic environment.

Gable Roofs

"Gable roofs tend to be popular in Florida where afternoon monsoons are commonplace. Gable roofs are shaped like an inverted "V", meaning two sloping sides leaning into one another to form a ridge. This slope allows water to drain easily – making a gable roof an excellent option for green-minded homeowners looking to maintain a sustainable water supply, even applicable with rain catchment systems. Gable roofs have been a major part of world history, visible from church towers in the Alps to shotgun-style houses in Key West."

Metal Roofs

Say goodbye to those old, flimsy shingles. Say hello to galvalume  metal roofs.

Advantages of metal roofs, as provided by State Farm:

  • Longevity. Metal roofs can last 40-70 years, depending on the material. Traditional asphalt roofing materials have an estimated life expectancy of roughly 12-20 years.

  • Durability. Some metal roofs can sustain wind gusts up to 140 miles per hour, will not corrode or crack, and may be impact-resistant (depending on which metal you choose). In addition, metal roofs don't need the periodic costly maintenance that other roofing materials often require. However, they should be inspected periodically to make sure no repairs are required.

  • Safety. Metal roofs will not spark and ignite into flames during a wildfire or lightning strike.

  • Energy efficiency. Metal roofs reflect solar radiant heat, which can reduce cooling costs by 10-25%.

  • Environmentally friendly. Metal roofs not only have 25-95% recycled content, depending on the material used, but are also 100% recyclable at the end of their life as a roof. In contrast, most shingle tear-off waste ends up as part of the building-related waste stream — up to 20 billion pounds per year.

Solar Savings

"Investing in an environmentally sustainable home may cost more on the front end but it will produce savings well after the mortgage-burning party. Steel SIPS, solar panels, metal roofs, sustainable materials and landscaping all add to the financial savings as well as in one's spiritual life. You’ll sleep better in your green home knowing you’ve done your part to build a smart, sustainable community for future generations."
